Becoming an Author

Donna suggested I write a children’s storybook about a cat. Let’s see…

At the home of Mr. Farmer, the farm is quiet until the sun begins to rise. As soon as the sunlight begins to lighten the sky, the chickens awaken and the rooster begins to crow (can I say this even though we do not have a rooster???). That’s when Mr. Farmer gets up and begins his day….

(A couple of pages later)

One of the cats on the farm is nicknamed Cookie Boy, but his real name is Oreo. He is white and black and is a big kitten. He has always liked to follow Mrs. Farmer when she goes for a walk, but some days he gets himself in trouble.

Oh, oh! Now what will he do? Posted by Hello

Yesterday I spent the evening reading Reading Strands: Understanding Fiction. I want to challenge my children more in their study of literature. I want to learn how to ask questions using the Socratic Method—I’m not very good at that. When I get done with this book, I’m going to work through some of the pages in The Well-Trained Mind and The Well-Educated Mind. I suppose I ought to work through some of the Republic, too. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Thoughts from my Big Green Chair

None! I’m thoughtless.

I remember singing a round as a child:

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!
Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!

Rejoice, rejoice, and again I say rejoice!
Rejoice, rejoice, and again I say rejoice!

This song has made its way into my mind this morning. We always sang this song at the top of our lungs (rounds do that to a child). In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song sung in any way but exuberantly loud.

Off to sing in the shower…

Blessings!

I love to walk through the halls of our childrens' ministries wing and hear that song coming from the classrooms.

Your kitties are so sweet!

I think Peter Kreeft has a book abot Socratic Dialogue. This is an area where I know I'm definitely inept with. When you get it figured out, will you tutor me?
