Sunday: A Day To Worship; A Day To Rest

I love my little church. Today there were only 24 of us worshiping there, but we prayed for the sick and encouraged each other. We sat together and worshiped our God, knowing that he cares for us. So many have had serious illnesses this year; we rejoice when they are able to attend Sunday worship.

I should have gone for a walk this afternoon, but I took a Sunday afternoon nap instead. It was a long nap, and I was curled up on the sofa in the room with the woodstove. This evening my children and I played a game of Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit. They gave me a LOT of leeway so that I had a chance at enjoying the game!

Tomorrow we will go back to doing school. I wouldn’t mind it if we had another weekend instead, but I’ll put on my teacher’s hat and get another week going. The year is going well. My 11th grader loves her government text: Great Source’s American Government. My 9th grader says his favorite subject is math. That may not cause any stir on your part, but if you consider that this is the child who took 3 years to learn the multiplication tables and use to consider math to be his bane in life, you might understand why this takes me by surprised. Last year we tried Making Math Meaningful, and although I think his age and maturity were more important than the text, I do know that that book gave him a new perspective on math. This year he is using Lial’s Basic College Mathematics as his pre-algebra, and soon will start Foerster’s Algebra I. My youngest child is enjoying his literature class—Robinson Crusoe, Caesar’s Gallic Wars, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table have been good, but of course they do not hold a candle to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings!

It’s cold here today. I think it is the damp air that makes it feel so uncomfortable. Our snow is almost gone; we keep getting light flurries, but they do not amount to anything. I suppose I ought to post a cat picture before I’m done, right?

Blessings!
