I have not had my early morning quiet time yet this morning. The trip to Hardee’s (an unusual treat) that the family took after doing a lit drop for the Republican Party, where I brainlessly drank a Dr. Pepper and then was awake too much of the night, no doubt has something to do with it… It will need to be done later in the day since we try to start school at 8:00 and I did not roll out of bed until 7:30. Even India Ink persistently shoving her whiskers into my face was not enough of an alarm clock to get me out of bed. And so I will add this entry today and perhaps add the “Today’s Reading” later. Blessings!

Observe the World around you.
Do not run so fast that you fail to see:
Branches swaying in the wind
Emotions reflected in the eyes of a child
The teddy, soft and huggable, sitting on the dresser
A kitten pouncing on his new toy mouse
The sunset: red, orange, and pink
An Amish buggy slowly making its way toward home
Listen to:
Children’s laughter
The roaring of wind in the trees
Running feet
Stories—lots of children’s stories
Hungry cats insistent meowing
Doors shutting
A fire in the woodstove crackling
Feel:
The softness of a kitten’s fur
The silky hair of the child you kiss
The small arms wrapped around you in a bear hug
Warm sheets before you rise to a cold January morning

I had some really nice soft fur brushing against my fact at midnight last night, and it wasn't Neil! Pippin had emerged from somewhere to greet me. He curled up right at my feet (which is odd for him) and purred for a long time.
I'm a sunset freak. I have albums full of sunsets I have photographed over the years. I love the sunsets on the prairies!
I think I would get a better night's sleep if I did not have a kitty snuggling up to me, but I have a hard time giving a warm, purring fuzz-wuzz a push. Snowflake has decided he likes crawling UNDER the blankets now, and too often I don't feel like waking up enough to haul him out. I *do* wake up enough, however, when he flops down on my face! A foot sitter will be welcome in winter, Kim!

Jean~ Too much caffeine does the same thing to me! Hope tonight's sleep goes better for you.
Observe the world around you--thanks for a needed reminder in the midst of busy, bustling days. Is it any wonder that the Lord says to "Be still and know that I am God." We miss so much when we're rushing about to and fro.
