Rainy Days

Spring rain that turns all things green... Posted by Hello

It has been raining--you know, those spring rains that turn all things green and makes all things soggy and muddy. I hear the rain on the attic roof splashing and the wind around the house and trees sighing. It makes all things peaceful and quiet.

Calving season is in full swing. Hardly a day goes by that we do not have another little one born. The pastures are full of scampering calves.

We watched as Mrs. Donkey (my dd calls her Sheehaw) pranced around the pasture on her 1st day out of the pen since we bought her. The cattle, curious, kept sniffing her and she kept kicking at them. Then she would take off and dash around, no doubt getting the exercise she has lacked for several days. She did not attack any calves and she seemed to be content. That is all a good sign.

My daughter’s play was really fun to watch. The children all worked so hard and were able to do a wonderful job. Messier Marathon on Friday night was fun, but there was enough water vapor in the air that we quit around 2:00 a.m.

Right now the kitties are purring and grunting as the circle my chair, rubbing their soft bodies against my legs, trying to convince me to head downstairs to the cat food dishes. My hubby is making noises in the kitchen. Any chance he’s making us some breakfast??

I’m reading Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. I just started it, but it has caught my attention.

And now I must get going. I rose late, and the day is off to a slow start.

“The time of labor does not with me differ from the time of prayer; and, in the noise and confusion of the kitchen where I am at work, while several persons are a the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees at the Blessed Sacrament.” Brother Lawrence

I could use a little more of this! Blessings.

Messier Marathon

Tonight is our astronomy club's Messier Marathon. My hubby will take Bethany to the play and watch the homeschooler's perform The Beverly Hillbillies while the boys and I stay out all night observing the Messier objects until dawn.

Tomorrow will be another blurr of activity; the boys and I will get to see the play in the evening. This is one of those times that we wish our truck was an extended cab!

"If you have not much time at your disposal, do not fail
to profit by the smallest portions of time which remain to you. We do not need much time in order to love God, to renew ourselves in His Presence, to lift up our hearts towards Him, to worship Him in the depths of our hearts, to offer Him what we do and what we suffer."

Stopping To Say Hello

Yesterday we had a cow deliver who could not stand up after the calf was born. It was probably due to a pinched nerve. I walked around the pasture's edge to look and see that she was O.K. mid-afternoon. I asked my hubby how she was later in the evening; he said he didn't know--she'd disappeared. Good sign.

I've been running my daughter to play practice a lot this last week. It takes 40 minutes to drive there, so it takes a big chunk out of the day. She will stay with friends for the next couple of days, and then the play will be on Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th. Yoo-hoo, Donna! Did you want to come see the Beverly Hillbillies? (She is the only person reading my blogs who is close enough to drive over--as far as I know :-)

I'm starting to do my spring cleaning. Anyone want to help?

Tomorrow is election day. In Wisconsin we get to cast our vote towards the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Yesterday my hubby and daughter went to a GOP dinner where Gregg Underheim said something about homeschoolers--"leaving them alone" seemed to be the quote. Do you think we could get this guy in office?

I've been taking carrots to Mrs. Donkey. We still have not given this poor girl a name. She likes the carrots a lot!

During the tough times in life, I think we notice God reaching out to us more than during the days of "busy-normal." Is this one of the reasons he leads us down the path that promises to be hard?
