Not totally. However, I've been trying to do some writing, type my recipes into Word, keep on track with ClassEd emails, do more interesting cooking, keep my house a wee bit more organized, learn Latin, read Herodotus, teach school, walk a little further everyday, learn logic, plan school next year, tutor a Korean girl in English...you know--the normal homeschool mom's list of activities!
I just am struggling to get photos and entries on my blog. I'll still post, but not everyday. Not for a little bit anyway.
Sorry! I'll miss your happy notes. They always brighten my day!
Blessings.

Life with Children
I went for a walk this morning. I walked across the 80 acre parcel, along the fence row, and through the corn field. I went so far that I was beginning to wish I had turned back sooner and to think that the children would wonder where I had gone. As I was making it over the last hill, I noticed a young, blond boy carrying a basketball, wearing a sweatshirt (I was in my down coat), and heading my way. My 1st thought was to point out to my son that I had walked the entire field and found no basketball hoop therein. I held my tongue and waited for him to speak.
"What's for lunch?"
So much for worried children.

Still Blogging
I’m not sure what keeps me blogging—probably all of you who keep stopping by! I think the busy schedules my teenagers keep and slower pace of this gray-haired mother is showing. Although a few days of excitement are always welcome, I prefer the quiet of the farm in this season of my life. I received a seed catalog in the mail, and I thought it would be fun to curl up with it and start planning next year’s garden. Instead I curled up with Teaching Company tapes, Omnibus I, LLATL, Smarr, and Invitation to the Classics.
We’ve had a few new visitors stop by and leave a comment. Welcome! It is always fun to see what notes you’ve left in my box for me. Those of you who urge me to make a calendar—I need to look into it. Is it too late for this year? Hah—I’ve not even written my Christmas cards yet! Maybe “this year” is a little too hopeful!
I was outside playing basketball today. Other than a little mud, it was plenty warm. The sun was even shining. I was on the winning team, but then it helps when the tallest kid who can make baskets is on my team. How’s the weather where you are?
Blessings!

Stopping to Smell the Roses
Sitting in my big, green chair, the wind howls and moans around the corners of my house, a calming melody to me. Beneath it plays a deep rumbling purr from the blanket on my lap. During the night, a light covering of snow fell—just enough to whiten the drive and dust the deck. The pine tree boughs dance wildly outside my window, but within, my heart is calm; I am at peace.
Peace be with you.

A bleak winter day
“Let him do what he will, for he will do what is best; and therefore if God should refer the matter to me, says the meek and quiet soul, being well assured that he knows what is good for me better than I do for myself, I would refer it to him again. He shall ‘choose our inheritance for us’ (Psalm 47:4).” Taken from The Quest for Meekness and Quietness of Spirit by Matthew Henry.
Peace be with you.

Epiphany Blessings!

On the eve of Epiphany the children set a pair of shoes outside their bedroom doors so that the Wise Men could drop a present into them on their way by. This child decided a pair of slippers would work just as well--and they did. A little money and an extra big orange was found there this morning. What fun! Today we will take down the Christmas tree, but the Créche (with the newly arrived Wise Men), Bethany's gingerbread house, and the lights on the light post will still remain up for a while.

Everybody Sing!
"On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...."

When I was cleaning last week, I found this sign on the step where Citrus use to sit. One of my boys made it after we had him put down. Although we do not speak of the cats that we have lost all the time, they are still in our hearts, aren't they?

The 10th Day of Christmas
The open house on Saturday was fun! My house got clean (great!), we baked and cooked up a great number of goodies, and we had plenty of folks to help us eat them up!
Sunday we rested. Our pastor was under the weather, so Hubby in Wisconsin did the church service, and then we went out to eat with his parents at a Chinese restaurant. I curled up on the couch for an afternoon nap and walked later in the afternoon. Wonderful!
Monday our cousin dropped off their boys for the day. I cooked for 5 hollow legs, and they played LOTR Trivial Pursuit to their heart’s content.
Tuesday. The men-folk are hunting deer this morning. It is the last day of our hunting season. We will start school again, but until the tree gets taken down on Epiphany, we will have an abbreviated schedule.
We have now officially entered into the 5th season of the farm year: winter, summer, spring, autumn, and MUD SEASON. I wish it would snow and stay COLD!
I like my clean house. I think we should move out so that it stays that way…
Have a good day! Blessings!

Rain, rain, go away! Give us snow and let it stay!
