The Beauty of Winter

It’s beautiful outside! All the branches on the trees are coated with snow, and all is swept clean by the draping of white across the land. Since I sent my digital camera with my daughter, I cannot snap a shot this morning, but I will post a picture from an earlier time—my husband on his little tractor plowing out the lane. You can see the row of trees behind him. Those are the trees I spoke of earlier that use to be a row of pines. It burned a few years ago leaving young softwood trees and wild berries. This is where I sat to listen to the sounds of winter that I wrote about a couple of days ago.

Plowing Snow Posted by Hello

Yesterday my daughter called from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and then again at 10:00 last night to let us know that they had gotten in for the night. There was a lot of laughing going on in the background and she couldn’t talk long because the girls had decided to take advantage of the swimming pool before turning in, and she didn’t want to miss that! I’m glad she is having fun.

Well, even though I had had good intentions, the tree is still standing in the bay window. I guess we celebrated Epiphany by curling up with books. I’m still reading A Sand County Almanac and am really enjoying it. There’s so much information about the land and the animals. I had to chuckle as I read:

"If your eyes are strong, you may search the sky and see him, wings aquiver, circling among the wooly clouds. If your eyes are weak, don’t try it; just watch the fence posts. Soon a flash of silver will tell you on which post the plover has alighted and folded his long wings. Whoever invented the word ‘grace’ must have seen the wing-folding of the plover.

There he sits; his whole being says it’s your next move to absent yourself from his domain. The country records may allege that you own this pasture, but the plover airily rules out such trivial legalities. He has just flown 4000 miles to reassert the title he got from the Indians, and until the young plovers are a-wing, this pasture is his, and none may trespass without his protest."

The animals on “our” land would tell me the same thing!

It’s Friday! A short day of school and the weekend begins. Tomorrow I will be going to my uncle’s funeral, taking my mom with me. This is the passing of another generation—the last of my father’s four brothers. It gives us reason to pause and reflect. If I do not get something posted tonight, I may not post tomorrow since I will be leaving early and will probably get back just in time to head out to join our astronomy club to take a look at the comet flying near the Pleiades. Fun!

Blessings on you and yours!

Update

Our daughter called tonight, from a hospital, to report that one of the boys had cut himself opening a hard plastic package. He needed a "couple" of stiches but nothing more serious. It took two hours, some of it getting permission from his parent in Wiscsonsin. The doctor said if it had been deeper it might have required surgery. She called later to report that they had gotten to there motel. Their coach was off to a meeting tonight and the kids were going to study meats cards (picture of the different meats cuts they need to know). She continues to sound up beat.

Jean will be going to her uncles funeral, but her mother will not be going. I may go with her but we will decide tomorrow morning.

Prayer concerns:

1) Safety for the "meats team"
2) That everyone on the "meats team" does the best they are able to.
3) For Jean and her uncle's family

Update on the update

Jean in Wisc. is off to her uncle funeral with her mother. Jean’s mother called this morning at 5:30 am and wanted to go to the funeral. So after packing a lunch Jean was off at 6:15 to pick up her mother.

No new excitement from the “meats team”. That is good news!

My prayers are with them (Jean, her mother, Bethany and the “meats team”). Please keep them in your prayers.

Well, Husband in Wisc., you answered all of the questions for which I am looking for answers!

I'm keeping all of the "In Wisc." family members in my prayers today!
