Ash Wednesday

It snowed last night. Close to midnight I stoked the stove and noticed that the deck had a soft layer of gentle white. Small flakes fell, quietly covering the landscape.

Wednesday. It’s the first day of Lent--a day to recall that we are but dust and a time to begin walking through the story of Jesus’ life once more. We separated ourselves from Him and made ourselves our God; He gave up His glory and took upon Himself His own wrath that was meant to be ours so that our relationship could be made right with Him once more.

How can this be?

“Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to him. He wants so much to show you his love. He will conquer you to bless you, just as he said.” Isaiah 30:18 taken from The Bible for Children

We stand near the fire to gather in its warmth and marvel at the crackling flames of yellow and red. In the same way let us come before God to be warmed by His love and to stand in awe at the wonders of His grace.

In sign language the sign for mercy, grace and pity are all the same.

"He will conquer you to bless you..."

Now that is deep.
