Greetings Jean, We love to see all the fluffy flakes but I'm sure their welcome is wearing thin with Wis. folks.( We have had rain, rain and RAIN! The AZ. record for percentage of cloudy days in Feb. was set in 1905 with 47%. We are on a record setting pace this year with 46%.)
I found this and thought you would like it: "The Idea of Florida During A Winter Thaw" By: Gail Mazur........
Late February, and the air's so balmy snowdrops and crocuses might be fooled into early blooming. Then, the inevitable blizzard will come, blighting our harbingers of spring, and the numbed yards will go back undercover. In Florida, it's strawberry season...shortcake, waffles, berries and cream will be penciled on the coffeeshop menus.
That stretching book by Bob Anderson looks good. I'm going to try and find it !
This is a household of rice milk and rice cheese. We did the soy milk stuff ( and I like it) but it causes a HUGE problem with kidney stones, as does regular dairy. Cows are cute....but dairy is on our no-no list. We both hope you are feeling better soon.
Hey! I'll have to ask my sister if they are having strawberries! It is funny that down there fresh corn and tomatoes come at different times and in Wisc. they are ready to eat at the same time--she misses that !
We just came back from our weekly Farmers Market.........green beans, peas ( my favorite!) carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, RED tomatoes, and lots of salad greens. Yummy......but we also don't have corn and tomatoes at the same time. They do kind of make you think "summer".....which is weird when you locate to a different part of the country. Winter is our growing season..... maybe Florida's also?????
I am both the wife of an engineer-turned-farmer in the beautiful hills of Wisconsin and the homeschooling mom of 3 teenagers. We raise Simmental cattle and grow corn, and soybeans. We also raise chickens and turkeys for our own use and have laying hens. We are giving our children a Christian classical education,
and this is our 13th year of homeschooling. The night sky is my hobby. I sew, knit, bake bread, cook from scratch, grind wheat, garden, make soap and so much more! Also, I should not forget to tell you that we all love cats! Welcome!
