A little taste of our neighborhood

This morning I am giving my presentation to the homeschool group in our area on composition. If you think of it, you can say a prayer for me. I am prepared—I’ve made my outline and have collected books. I put together a handout. I do need to go over my outline again and be sure I know where I’m going with each section. I had been thinking that this was going to happen at their March meeting, so it was not until Wednesday that I realized I was doing it this month! Oh, well. I’ll be ready.
This is going to be a busy weekend, including trips to Madison and an evening with my astronomy club. I’m going to see Donna B. tomorrow and I’m looking forward to that! We always have a wonderful time whizzing around Madison to find Shakespeare’s (used books), and all the other bookstores. Maybe we will stop at Whole Foods to see what great health foods and products they have—perhaps we’ll buy something from the deli and sit and chat. If I were a cat I’d be purring.
Last night the stars were out. I found myself musing over their creation. Not being a scientist, I find all this jabber over how certain we are about the beginning of time to be a bit amusing. Since I’m a Christian, I certainly believe in “intelligent design”. However, I am content to sit and listen to all the people and their ideas of how it all began without making a serious commitment to most of it. My musings go along this line: You know if God made the stars only a short time ago, then He had to have made it so their light had already gotten to earth. Otherwise it would not have reached us yet. Certainly he is capable of that. I wonder if it was done that way, or if another way? I wonder if He will ever show us around the universe when we meet Him face to face? Will we get to experience the rings of Saturn? Will we travel to Wolf 359 to see where the Borg fought the Federation? (If you are not a Star Trek fan, you may not get my joke…) And so my thoughts jumble along while I sigh over the beauty of Orion and the Pleiades, and Saturn’s progress through the winter sky.
Have a wonderful day!
Thoughts from my Big Green Chair
Psalm 67:1 “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us.”
When I read this verse all the tension flowed out of my body, and I suddenly realized that my hurry-scurry is ridiculousness personified. Here is my God who created the stars (light here on earth and all), being gracious to us. I think part of that graciousness involves laughing at our little world we build up around us—laughing in love and tenderness. He gently pushes into our awareness and blesses us. Shall we not go each day into His presence and seek his face?

Oh, please give a hug to Donna from me. I so appreciate her "encourage one another" words.
Thanks for the reminder that I am not the center of the universe. As the hub of the homeschool in my home, it is easy to think too much of myself. His reaching out to me is the truth that causes everything to fall into place.
Another LOVELY picture, Jean. Thanks for the words and pictures of peace today.
I'll say a prayer for your presentation (right now, at 7:28 a.m. in California.)
Diane
Greetings Jean,
Is that an Amish horse and buggy in your "Taste of our neighborhood" photo? We are surprised to see any snow left after the warm weather that moved through your area.(That's according to the TV weather people.....Should we pay attention to them at all? Maybe we should just consider you our Wis. weather person!)
What a wonderful name for a bookstore! It sounds like a place a person could spend hours in. Is Madison full of neat used bookstores?
We find ourselves wishing that Whole Foods had a buffet deli......everything looks so good......and smells so good. It's such a difficult place to make a decision . BTW, How's the diet going?
One product from Whole Foods that we can't live without is their 365 Body Lotion. (Sesame Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Glycerin......no added colors, no petroleum. Very soothing. Very well-priced)
Have you ever checked out the "Answers in Genesis" website? We have subscribed to "Creation" magazine for years. The photos are really amazing .( which you would appreciate) The articles are truly thought provoking. You are such an observant person of God's creation that we think you ( and your family) would enjoy it. They have a great archives section to browse! Great information for astronomy club discussions......and so much more. We always find ourselves saying, "I didn't know that"!
My husband is a "Star Trek" show watcher, but not a "Trekkie". (Is that spelled right?) We both got a kick out of the movie "Galaxy Quest". It made a good point that TV isn't real life. One afternoon we were listening to an audio book by William Shatner (from the library) in which he described fans at a Star Trek convention who thought that Mr. Spock could heal them. At first he pooh-poohed it, but then he said "How wonderful to have faith like that". When your life consists of pretending to be other people you end up with the same problem in perception that TV viewers have. How sad.
Hope you are having fun wherever and whatever you are doing today!
Bob and Carmen
